Why Was Rome Significant In The History Of Western Civilization?

The Roman Empire had a major effect on the history of the world. The Romans not only influenced Western Civilization but other cultures as well. After the Romans had influenced these other cultures, they too, had their share in influencing the West. Thus we are called “The Melting Pot”.

Rome had acquired many great literary works during its time. Such pieces include the works of Ovid, Livy, Virgil, Seneca, and Horace. All of which, have had a major influence on Western literature. Not only did we get literature from them, but we have also added to our vocabulary and architecture. Another thing is the idea of Natural Law. Natural Law is the idea of a higher law that binds all nations together in the form of fairness and justice. In this theory, we see that all of the laws in every nation answers to this “natural law”. Another name for this “natural law” is “common sense”.
